Springsure Aerodrome - Driving on the Runway!!

Well not quite driving 'literally' on the runway, but I recently drove to Springsure and was surprised to find that I could not only drive right up to the little 'shed' that is the 'terminal building', but that I could quite easily drive up to the parked aircraft on the airport apron! No problems with plane spotting here!

Springsure is a small town in Central Queensland, around 70km south of Emerald, on the Gregory Highway. It is approximately 765km North-West of Brisbane.

Springsure Aerodrome is on the edge of the town, although it is surrounded by quite a few houses - and in particular some newer houses that are been built in response to the mining boom - of which Springsure is right in the middle with the nearby Minerva Mine and several sites in Rolleston.

Springsure Aerodrome has to runways - alligned 01/19 and a larger alligned 12/30. Most traffic (as shown above) is private - although there have been times when fly-in fly-out charters have been noted arriving from Brisbane - in particular Corporate Air (Vee H Aviation) small Cessnas - like Cessna 441 VH-VEZ (pictured below at Emerald Airport).
