Weekend Specials at Rockhampton Airport - Army Tiger ARH Helicopter - RAAF King Air - Police Citation - AND MORE!!!

With sincere thanks to the Rocky spotters - Don W, Ben O and 'IAD' - comes some great photos of some interesting visitors to Rockhampton Airport over this last weekend.

As posted below, the action started early on Saturday 11 May when 'IAD' spotted a nice visitor in the form of Surveillance Australia / Australian Customs and Border Protection Service Dash-8-202 VH-ZZJ.

Also spotted was the locally based Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service Sikorsky S-76A helicopter VH-JRD as it rested in the morning sun.

Meanwhile, a little earlier in the week, 'IAD' captured the colourful Brisbane-based Cessna 414A VH-FCZ parked on the General Aviation apron.

And also an interesting aircraft in the form of Piper PA-24-250 VH-MCD.  Interesting in that there is a sizeable metal plate on the port-side of the fuselage.

Also spotted last week by 'IAD' were a pair of Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800s - VH-VUV (still in Virgin Blue colours) and VH-VOQ (wearing the 'new' colours of Virgin Australia).

The action on Sunday 12 May started early with the Queensland Police Service (Airwing) Cessna 560 Citation Ultra bizjet VH-PSU arriving from Brisbane and later departing to Townsville.

Don W was on hand to catch this frequent visiting bizjet, however a Sunday visit is certainly a rarity.  VH-PSU returned to Rockhampton around lunch time heading back South from Townsville, and on to Brisbane.

Later on Sunday 12 May, 'IAD' ventured back to the Airport and was surprised to see an Australian Army Eurocopter (ARH) Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter - serial A39-002 - parked on the Northern end of the Rockhampton Airport apron.

The Tiger reportedly has mechanical problems and remained parked at the Airport overnight.

As he was at the Airport 'IAD' also managed to captured some great photos of Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Beech Super King Air A32-426 as it touched down from the North as "Dingo 50".

The Super King Air wasn't on the ground for long, and by the time that it started taxiing out, Ben O had arrived and captured some photos as it departed for the North, again as "Dingo 50".

Ben also couldn't resist capturing some of his own photos of the Tiger A39-002!!

Sincere thanks to the Rockhampton Plane Spotters for bringing us some great coverage of some of the weekend's star arrivals at Rockhampton Airport - thanks guys!
