Military Exercise Talisman Saber 2013: USMC KC-130J Hercules and USAF Gulfstream C-37A Bizjet Touch Down at Rockhampton Airport

Just on dusk on Friday 26 July, a pair of American Military visitors popped into Rockhampton Airport, and local plane spotter Travis W was on hand to capture some spectacular images of the new arrivals.

First to arrive was United States Marine Corps (USMC) Lockheed KC-130J - serial number 167926 and tail code QD-926 - which touched down from the North as "Sumo 88".

167926 is part of the Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 (VMGR-152) which provides aerial refueling services to support Fleet Marine Force (FMF) air operations; and provides assault air transport of personnel, equipment, and supplies. The squadron, known as the "Sumos", is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan and is part of Marine Aircraft Group 36 (MAG-36) and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (1st MAW).

As the "Sumo" taxied to parking, United States Air Force (USAF) Gulfstream Aerospace C-37A (G-V) bizjet 01-0054 also touched down at Rockhampton, arriving from Canberra as "Spar 65".

01-0065 is operated by the 65th Airlift Squadron (65th AS) which is part of the 15th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Pearl Harbour-Hickam, Hawaii.

Information suggest that at the time of writing both aircraft are still parked at Rockhampton Airport.

My sincere thanks to Travis for sending through his fantastic photos - taken in very low light - you would no doubt agree they are spectacular!
