AirServices Australia / Pearl Aviation Hawker Beechcraft B300 Super King Air VH-FIY Flight Calibration at Gladstone Airport This Week

For three days this week, Gladstone Airport played host an interesting visitor in the form of Pearl Aviation Hawker Beechcraft B300 Super King Air VH-FIY.

This King Air is one of four that AirServices Australia operates to calibrate the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and other navaids at airports around Australia.

VH-FIY arrived into Gladstone from Brisbane as ADA3 - radio callsign "Auscal 3" - on Wednesday 11 September, and proceeded to operate a pair of calibration flights on Thursday 12 September.  It eventually departed back to Brisbane on Friday 13 September.

Local plane spotters Jamie C and Tash C captured some great images of VH-FIY, and if you look closely at the photos above, a small red-and-white striped shed has appeared on the North-side of Gladstone Airport, with the possibility of this being the first visible stage taking place of the Gladstone Airport ILS installation.
