Australia by Seaplane Takes Delivery of De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver Mk1 VH-IDO at Gladstone Airport

Touching down at Gladstone Airport last week was the latest addition to the Australia by Seaplane fleet - De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver Mk1 VH-IDO.  The 1964-built Beaver floatplane has recently been operating on the Gold Coast, and ferried into Gladstone from Redcliffe on Friday 4 October.

Australia by Seaplane operates from Gladstone - at Lake Awoonga and Gladstone Airport - and also Port Macquarie in New South Wales.  Lake Awoonga (Awoonga Dam) is located 8km from Benaraby or about a 15-minute drive from Boyne Island / Tannum Sands or 20 minutes from Gladstone.  Lake Awoonga is the main water supply for the Gladstone region. Its recreation areas and recreational fishery are provided free to locals and tourists by the Gladstone Area Water Board.

VH-IDO was photographed by local plane spotters Jamie C and Tash C departing Gladstone Airport for Lake Awoonga on Friday 4 October, operating its first ever flight for Australia by Seaplane.

VH-IDO returned to Gladstone Airport after its first flight, where Jamie and Tash captured some more stunning images of the lovely floatplane.

And later again, VH-IDO departed Gladstone Airport once more for Lake Awoonga.

DHC-2 Beaver VH-IDO can be chartered to operate scenic flights of Lake Awoonga, Gladstone Harbour, Boyne Island / Tannum Sands, Mt Larcom as well as Curtis Island and / or Facing Island. Extended scenic flights can include Great Keppel Island or 1770 / Agnes Waters.  The Australia By Seaplane website also promotes passenger transfers from land-based airports such as Gladstone Airport and Rockhampton Airport.  Interested customers can even design their own exclusive air adventure.
