Wow! A Triple Treat of RAAF Aircraft at Rockhampton and Mackay Airports Thursday

After a 'quiet' period, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) aircraft have made a spectacular re-appearance in Central Queensland skies on Thursday 1 May with three different RAAF aircraft types spotted conducting airwork at both Rockhampton and Mackay Airports.

Mid-morning on Thursday, RAAF Airbus A330-203 / KC-30A (MRTT) A39-003 was captured by local plane spotter Kayanne H and Brisbane-based spotter Brendan B performing a missed approach onto Rockhampton Airport's Runway 15.  The MRTT was heard to be using the callsign of "Dragon 10".

Brendan captured a truly spectacular image of A39-003 climbing out of Rocky complete with Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800 VH-YIG overflying while heading to Mackay.

Later on Thursday 1 May, RAAF Boeing C-17A Globemaster III - believed to be A41-209 - was seen also performing a missed approach at Rockhampton before heading North.  It was then spotted overhead Mackay before performing a missed approach at Mackay Airport by local plane spotter 'AC'.

The Globemaster was heard to be using the radio callsign of "Stallion 20".

Finally, to make it a great trifecta of RAAF movements, Beech Super King Air A32-439 was seen on radar to also perform airwork at Rockhampton Airport.

After flying North, A32-439 was also noted to perform a missed approach at Mackay Airport.  It was using the radio callsign of "Dingo 52".

What a great day!  Thanks to Kayanne, Brendan and 'AC' for sending through these great photos!
