ATSB Investigating Collision with Terrain by Air Whitsunday DHC-2 Beaver Seaplane VH-AWI at Hardy Lagoon on Great Barrier Reef

While searching for information on the demise of an Emerald-based aircraft, I stumbled upon some information on an investigation that the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has commenced into a collision with terrain involving a Air Whitsunday Seaplanes De Havilland Canada DHC-2FP Float Plane VH-AWI at Hardy Lagoon Aircraft Landing Area (ALA) on the Great Barrier Reef back on Thursday 25 June.

The ATSB reports that during the water take-off at Hardy Lagoon, the aircraft collided with an underwater reef structure, resulting in damage to both floats. The pilot and passengers were not injured and the aircraft sustained minor damage.  VH-AWI landed without incident at the Whitsunday Airport at Shute Harbour.

The investigation is expected to take a few months.
