Discussions Start for East to West Passenger Air Service from Rockhampton to Emerald

Reports have surfaced over the last week or so that talks have commenced between representatives from Gladstone, Rockhampton, Biloela / Thangool, Longreach and Emerald Airports to discuss the possibility of a small air carrier starting passenger flights from the Central Queensland coast to the Central West.

There are currently no regular passenger 'East to West and back' services, only scheduled flights from Emerald and Longreach Airports to Brisbane.

Meanwhile, some changes outside of Emerald Airport are taking place with the entrance way intersection off the Gregory Highway (Springsure Road) being upgraded by the local Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC).

The $1.25 million project will involve widening of the highway, adding a new turning lane, extension of the existing turning lane and an overall upgrade of the intersection.

Upgrading the intersection of the Airport Access Road and Gregory Highway was a requirement for the Queensland Government to approve the recent redevelopment of Emerald Airport.
