Two RAAF KC-30s and a RAAF E-7A Wedgetail Complete Airwork at Rockhampton Airport

A spectacular day in the skies above Rockhampton Airport on Thursday 1 February with three Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) aircraft completing airwork over the beef capital including performing missed approaches and low overshoots at Rockhampton Airport.

The day started during the latter part of the morning with RAAF Boeing B737-7ES / E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft A30-004 spotted on climb out after completing a missed approach onto Runway 15 at Rockhampton Airport as "Wedgetail 12".

It had flown up from Newcastle (Williamtown) via missed approach at the Gold Coast and later flew South to complete more airwork around RAAF Base Amberley.

After earlier flying North from RAAF Base Amberley, RAAF Airbus A330-203 / KC-30A (MRTT) A39-004 returned South and was spotted soon after completing a missed approach onto Runway 15 at Rockhampton Airport as "Dragon 17".

It the returned to Amberley.

Finally, as the sun was setting, fellow RAAF Airbus A330-203 / KC-30A (MRTT) A39-006 was spotted yet again soon after completing a missed approach yet again onto Runway 15 at Rockhampton Airport as "Dragon 20".

It had flown up from Amberley and then departed towards Townsville where it completed more airwork before continuing up to and landing at Cairns.  From Cairns it then returned to Amberley.

A spectacular day!

We sincerely thank local plane spotters Daniel B and Kayanne H for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!
